  48. 1. Installation

  50. For now, make sure that you have at least 7 MBytes free on your Hard Disk
  51. before installing.

  56. To configure RELENTLESS (Language, SVGA, Music card, Sound Card) 
  57. type SETUP in the RELENT directory. Make sure to address every option
  58. and save your configuration before returning to DOS.

  123. 3. Playing RELENTLESS

  125. Type RELENT and press <ENTER> in the RELENT directory to run game.

  199. 4. Tips and Tricks :
  200.  
  201. - When a character is hit by someone or something a little star indicates 
  202.   the loss of lifepoints. If there is no star when you hit someone, it 
  203.   means you are not strong enough (magic level) or your weapon is not 
  204.   appropriate.
  205. - Don't forget to speak (SPACE BAR in Normal behavior) to people before 
  206.   kicking (or even killing) them (if possible).
  207. - Search in all the closets, trash-cans, chests, and flowers pots to find 
  208.   coins, life, magic, or keys. For example, at one particular stage you will
  209.   need a rather large amount of money to progress.
  210. - When you touch a door without a lock, it will be opened automatically. If 
  211.   the door has a lock you need to use a key. If you don't have a key you 
  212.   must adventure until you find one. (You can see the number of keys you 
  213.   possess in the behavior menu - (By using the CTRL key).
  214. - Keys can be found in closets, flowers pots... or by killing a 
  215.   "monster" (Even doctors!).
  216. - If you know a key was discovered but you can't see it, throw your magic 
  217.   ball. It will bring back any key that could be in the general area.
  218. - Switches can be activated by the magic ball.

  222. 5. Troubleshooting

  225. Step A. Configuration
  226.  
  227. If you are having problems launching the game, make sure that RELENTLESS is
  228. configured properly.
  229. If the problem remains, select VESA and no music and no sound FX and retry.
  230. If the program gives you an error about VESA support, load the VESA driver
  231. provided with your SVGA card (see SVGA card manual).
  232. If the problem is solved go to step F, if not, go to Step B with this 
  233. minimal configuration.

  236. Step B. EMS/UMB provider programs (memory managers)
  237.  
  238. Try setting up a DOS Boot Disk.  Refer to the DOS Boot Disk section of your 
  239. manual. If the problem is solved go to Step F, if not, go to the next step.

  242. Step C. Caching programs
  243.  
  244. Try reducing the size of any disk cache such as SMARTDRV.EXE (leave some
  245. cache if possible, even 256 KB or less) in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  246. Eventually try removing any reference to those programs in your CONFIG.SYS
  247. or AUTOEXEC.BAT. If the problem is solved go to Step F, if not, go to the 
  248. next step.

  251. Step D. HIMEM.SYS
  252.  
  253. Try removing HIMEM.SYS from your Boot Disk CONFIG.SYS. If the problem is 
  254. solved go to Step F, if not, go to the next step.

  257. Step E. Reinstall Relentless
  258.  
  259. Put the Boot Disk in drive A and reboot using this floppy disk. Then 
  260. re-install Relentless from the CD. If the problem is solved go to step F, 
  261. if not, your computer does not have enough memory to run Relentless.

  264. Step F. Reconfiguration
  265.  
  266. You can now try to reconfigure your SVGA, Music, and Sound FX cards with the
  267. RELENTLESS setup program.

  272. 6. Technical information
  273.  
  274. The best configuration for RELENTLESS would be a machine with HIMEM.SYS 
  275. loaded, no memory manager such as EMM386 or QEMM386, and a disk 
  276. caching program. 
  277. It is best not have anything loaded high since RELENT will make better use
  278. of extended memory than of DOS memory. Therefore, try leaving resident
  279. programs in DOS memory.
